Meet artist Julie Simon and view her Tiny Clay Books exhibit.
Inspired by an article in the New York Times featuring tiny foods made out of clay, Julie Simon began creating tiny clay things, mostly foods and succulents, during the height of the pandemic. An avid reader and book lover, Julie wondered if she could possibly make tiny books out of clay. With a steady hand and her magnifying reading glasses, Julie created her first tiny clay book, Donna Tartt’s “The Goldfinch.” From there, she set about making replicas of all the books she read in 2020—and she just kept going. Julie launched her Instagram account @TinyClayBooks in November of 2021 where you can find the entire TCB collection, alongside her thoughtful book reviews. She has connected with many readers, writers and authors who are delighted by Tiny Clay Books, seeing a familiar object in an entirely new way. Julie’s hope is that Tiny Clay Books bring you as much joy as they have brought her.
