Program Description

In 1979, American Airlines Flight 191 crashed near O'Hare Airport. With 273 fatalities, it was the deadliest aviation accident in American history. In the book Safe Landing, siblings and co-authors Kim Jockl and Melody Smith share their journey grieving their parents' sudden loss in the crash, coming together as a family in the aftermath of the tragedy, and working hard to honor the lives of all 273 lost that day. It's an inspirational Chicago story about love, family, and how tragedy never gets the final word.

At this event, Kim and Melody will join us in person for a presentation about the book and their family's story. Copies of the book will be available to purchase at the Library. Brought to you in partnership with River Forest Township.
